A brief overview of the purpose and meaning of the forums

Port Phillip Specialist School (PPSS) caters for children aged 5 to 18 with a wide range of disabilities. Their needs are such that it does not make sense merely to duplicate the curriculum that is offered in mainstream schools. These children are different. Their needs are different. In responding to this recognition of difference PPSS, has developed a Visual and Performing Arts Curriculum (VPAC) that seeks to use to power of direct experience using dance, drama, music and visual arts as a means to engage special students.

To further enhance this vision we investigated uploading PPSS’ new Performing Arts curriculum to Knowledge Bank to make it available to all other special schools. In discussions about this it became apparent that in fact special schools are often geographically and therefore somewhat culturally isolated from each other. This makes discussion and sharing of ideas and excellent practices quite difficult.

The Special Schools Forum is designed to foster discussion to build an excellent system.
